Clowns: Gotta Luv 'Em! Part 1

January is Clown Month

Video:  Where Do Clowns Come From?

Be a Clown, Be a Clown, All the World Loves a Clown

Clowns serve a purpose in our lives, it takes a special kind of person to be a clown, and it also takes a special kind of education.  Here's a closer look at some different kinds of clowns.

The Rodeo Clown

A Rodeo Clown is a versatile guy.  He banters with the crowd & the announcer to keep everyone entertained between rides.  He needs to know how to make people laugh with skits, fireworks, props & maybe even a clown car.  But he has to be more than a clown.  He's primarily there to protect the cowboys.  He has to distract an angry bull, help the cowboys to their feet & get them out of the ring, and maybe even continue to do so after he's been injured himself.  Don't let the face paint & baggy pants fool you - they are heroes putting themselves on the line to save lives.  If you'd like to look into becoming a rodeo clown, check out the info on salary.com.

Rodeo Clowns Save Lives

Whether you call them Rodeo Clowns or Bullfighters, we all call them heroes - the Bravest of All.

Rodeo Clowns Rock

Let's not forget the clowns of the rodeo! They put on a great show and help protect the cowboys and cowgirls!

Rodeo Clowns are Superheroes

Clowns who entertain AND save lives are definitely Super Clowns!

The Birthday Clown

The birthday clown has been entertaining children for years.  Birthday clowns can perform magic, tell jokes, do gags such as water squirting out of a flower, and make balloon characters for the children.  If you are interested in this career, read this online book on being a children's performer.

Where would the world be without the birthday clowns?

The Circus Clown

There are three basic types of Circus Clowns:

  1. The White Face Clown:  This is the leader of the other clowns, so named for the white makeup they wear.  They are the 'top banana', and usually play the straight man when performing with other clowns.
  2. The Auguste or Red Clown:  This is the brunt of all the jokes, so named because their makeup is either red or flesh tone.  They get the pie in the face, their pants on fire, or squirted with whatever.
  3. The Character Clown:  This type adopts an eccentric character behaviour such as a hobo, a fireman, or a baker.  They can work alone or with other clowns.

To check out examples, visit the International Clown Hall of Fame.

Here's the classic pants on fire bit by a firefighter.

Clown Around Road Trip

Then there's always the 'how many clowns can you get in a car' gag. Clown's Roadtrip.

Clown Around Cops and Robbers

There's always the antics of the poor clown who gets thrown in a jail that's easy to break out off with Clown Cops and Robbers.

Clown Around Pieman

And who gets tired of the good ole slapstick comedy of a pie in the face?

Tomorrow we will discuss part 2 of "Clowns: Gotta Luv 'em" with the discussion of the fear of clowns.  While you're waiting, why not check out our other tees at Lingo T shirts!
